Welcoming Baby Britton

On August 12, 2019 our little family welcomed the birth of Britton Neathery Hazen. We are so in love with this little guy. It felt like we had been waiting forever for him! Especially those last few weeks of pregnancy. It was rough! haha

A few weeks before his due date, I went to the doctor and met with a different physician than normal. She told me that I was progressing and that I could possibly have the baby any day. It made the next three weeks unbearably long. Luckily I have some really great friends here to distract me. In fact, my friends Aimee and Lisa threw an adorable baby shower for Britton. It was "British themed" which I absolutely loved. Lisa is a baker and made milk chocolate macaroons, delicious sugar cookies, and personal creme brulees. Aimee indulged my craving for muddy buddies. A craving I had been having for weeks. haha It was perfect.

Britton's due date was actually August 13 which just happens to be our wedding anniversary. I asked the doctor if I could be induced earlier (because I selfishly wanted to keep the 13th for Sam and I)  and I was induced the day before. This labor was much easier than my labor with Rosalie. It only lasted about 8 hours rather than the 19 hours with Rosalie. It probably could have been shorter but there was some concern on how much oxygen Britton was getting when I had contractions. Because of this, they only increased the pitocin levels a small amount every hour or two just to make sure he was safe and breathing. (It turns out the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck) And I had to wear an oxygen mask the entire day. But it was worth it. And it only took me about 5 minutes to actually "push" which was amazing! 8 hours still feels like nothing compared to 19. I was excited about getting to eat dinner that day. I'm one of those "live to eat" type people. haha
5am and waiting at the hospital

We went to the hospital at 5am but I wasn't officially started on pitocin until a little after 8 am. Britton was born at 4:28pm. He was 7lbs, 6 oz and 19 inches long. After having such a chubby baby with Rosie, we were surprised at having a "small" slender baby. He is perfect! He looks so much like Sam its crazy. It's almost as if he is a carbon copy.  But we both think he has my eyes.

Sam's work got us flowers.  How sweet!

It was kind of nice being induced. It was nice to have a plan. Vince and Connie showed up at our apartment super early in the morning to watch Rosalie while we went to the hospital. They brought her later that day to meet her new brother and to celebrate his birth. Then they took her up to Austin for a few days while we spent our time in the hospital (celebrating our anniversary and new baby) and adjust to having a new baby at home. I was so grateful to know that she was being cared for and having a good time. I feel like she grew so much just the few days she was gone. I had a bit of a hard time being away from her but knowing she was having so much fun gave me peace.

I'm not going to lie, it hasn't been all rainbows and sunshine. I actually had a difficult time adjusting to having two children. I wrestled with feeling like I wasn't good enough of a mother. That I wasn't giving enough attention to Rosalie and that I couldn't help Britton ease his pain. Britton had colic. We had to switch him to gentle formula and learn all sorts of tricks to ease his stomach pain and gassiness. It meant long nights and lots of prayers. Rosalie on the other hand had a more difficult time adjusting to the changes than I thought she would. She has absolutely adored the baby from day one (literally the first thing she says each morning is "Awww baby cute!") but she becomes jealous of my attention. All of the sudden she wanted me to hold her all the time and carry her (which before she refused to allow me to do). When the baby had milk, she wanted milk. When the baby got a diaper change, she wanted a diaper change. When the baby was snuggled, she wanted snuggles too. Some days I felt in over my head. Especially with all the hormones from post pregnancy.  Luckily, my mother and sister Samantha both came to visit within the first month and were such a great help to me. Not only did they help with night feedings, but they also helped preoccupy Rosalie which made a HUGE difference.

While Samantha was here (for 2 weeks!) we celebrated her birthday, went to Austin AND the ranch. It was Samantha's first real tourist-y visit. She had only been here for my wedding 3 years prior so we wanted to show her around and introduce he to yummy foods. It was nice to have something to preoccupy my mind besides this big change in my life. It helped keep me from getting anxious about my worries. And I am so grateful.

Sam has been an amazing help as well. Now that he is no longer teaching early morning seminary, he helps me with the night feedings. I take the late night shift until about 5 am and then he takes over to let me get some last few hours of sleep before Rosalie wakes up. It has been such a lifesaver. It's interesting, we thought having two children would just let us divide our attention between the two. One parent for one child. But instead it has intensified their need for attention on both of us. Its a bit exhausting but I am so grateful for such a helpful husband. He had really upped his game. He makes me breakfast every morning so that I can sleep in as late as possible. It's the little things!

For that first month we also spent quite a bit of time in Austin, driving my mom and Samantha to and from the airport. One of those weekends, we celebrated Rosalie's 2nd birthday. It was Bubble Guppies themed. (Rosalie's favorite television show). Connie went all out on decorations and even bought Rosalie a special shirt. (which she wants to wear every day). It was so special to have Neils, Kelly, Naomi, and Samantha all in town for the party.

It was also pretty fun having a kids free night with Neils, Kelly, Sam and Samantha. Meme and Pappy watched the kids while we tried out a new dessert place in Austin.

On Rosalie's actual birthday, Sam and I gave her a basketball hoop as her birthday present. We knew she would love it! This girl has hoop dreams. Daddy's girl all the way! haha

Vince and Connie bought Rosalie some super cool magnets as well as a tiny Dyson vacuum that actually works! It is one of the most popular toys at playgroup when we host. haha
My parents bought Rosalie a Doc McStuffins magnetic clipboard that Rosalie LOVES! She loves to pretend doctor. She is always coming up to us and saying "say ahhh" and then scribbles on her clipboard.
A week after Rosie's actual birthday, her playgroup had a combined birthday party since all of the kids have birthdays a couple weeks apart over the course of two months. My friend Lisa (she is just amazing!) made all of the kids a personal cake! Aimee hosted the party at her house. Tonya brought the Pinata and I supplied candy. We had a dinner potluck and let the kids play. It was such a fun little event.

Rosie's Cake :)

Rosalie LOVES to pretend she is a puppy. Its all I can do to keep her from licking the floor or puddles on the ground. *rolls eyes* But she does make an adorable puppy with her little "arf arf" noises. I had to drag her out of this dog kennel at the party though...

Rosie is a little outnumbered at the moment. She doesn't mind. That just means she has her choice of suitors right? haha

I turned it into a topless party. oops!  But when Lisa warned me that the purple icing would likely stain, I decided a shirtless Rosalie was best. Luckily all of the little boys didn't care a bit.
Since we have been married, we have a tradition of spending October General Conference weekend in Austin. This year was no different! We enjoy all of the yummy fall treats and spending time with Meme and Pappy. Plus its a fun getaway weekend.
LOVE these pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. I look forward to them all year long.

I always like to have some sort of craft project during conference.

Last week, I flew out to Ohio with my in-laws for Grandma Hazens 80th birthday. I was a bit concerned about flying with two children. I have vowed again and again to never fly with Rosalie again. But I couldn't miss this opportunity out of fear. I was so grateful Vince and Connie flew with me. The kids flew like a dream. Rosalie was so well behaved and Britton slept pretty much the entire way. Unfortunately the flight unsettled his stomach. My amazing dad stayed up pretty much all night with Britton while he fussed so that I could get some sleep after traveling.  We had such a great time in Ohio with so much family. We went to Youngs Dairy with my family, had a small fire and made smores, and had play dates with cousins. On Friday, Sam joined us in Ohio and we spent Saturday celebrating Grandma Hazens 80th birthday with all of Sam's aunts and uncles. We also had the special opportunity to go to my nephew Carson's baptism.

Grandma Hazen sure knows how to decorate! Rosalie referred to her house as the "spooky house".

Grandma Hazen's 80th Birthday there was "It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary Ellen"

Spoonfulls of Sugar

Rosalies face! haha
On Sunday, Britton had his baby blessing. I am so amazed at how inspired Sam is when giving our children their baby blessings. It was perfect! It was fun blessing Britton in my parents ward. We had blessed Rosalie in Sam's parents ward almost exactly 2 years ago. Maybe with our next child we will actually bless them in our own church building. haha
It was even more special this time because with so much family in town, we were able to have some of Sam's uncles in the circle, along with both of our dad's, grandpa Hazen, Sam's brother Jack, and our brother-in-law Casey.  After sacrament meeting, we all went to grandma Hazen's for an amazing pasta lunch and cake before heading to the airport to return home. It was such a fun filled weekend and it was so nice to share a special moment with so much family.

Four generations of Hazen men

It's exhausting being the King. haha  This is the little "pope outfit" that Vince and Connie bought in Egypt

Blessing Day 10/13/2019

I've been writing this blog for a few days during nap/bedtimes. Its not as easy to find time these days. Usually I just want to sleep. haha But I wanted to write this blog as early as possible before I forget special details from this crazy/hectic/special time.

Also, Ive been holding off on posting because our nephew Levi is going to be born any day and I don't want to steal his thunder on social media. :) Levi and Britton are going to be best friends. I just know it!

I made my own cake this year. I have been SUPER craving peanut butter and chocolate with this pregnancy.

Reading Harry Potter in bed. Just like Mama.

Rosalie got spoiled at the Pioneer Day Picnic. Snow cones AND cotton candy

AND kettle corn of course!

Britton looks so much like Sam

The day we came home from the hospital, Mary and Colton ordered us a pizza. And cheesy bread. And brownies. And a drink! So spoiled.

Occasionally I feel motivated to potty train. So far its been in vain. But Rosalie DID pee in the "big" potty the other day of her own volition. woohoo!

Our little pirate "ARRR!"

My dad sent us these nerdy onesies. They are so fun!

This is the quilt that Connie made for Britton. Isn't it gorgeous?

Vince and Connie bought Rosalie this dress from Mexico

My crazies. I mean CUTIES!

He has the frown DOWN!

*Sigh* I love these boys.

This is my life now. "I want to be held too!!"

My dad sent a random package of hundreds of magic cards for Sam. He has been having the best time rearranging his magic decks. NERD! ;) haha

Finally getting our wedding cake and toppers back. I'm still in awe about how amazing they are.
